The Danakil Depression, touching down for sunrise overlooking the hauntingly beautiful sulphur pools of Dallol. Spectacular full of eye-catching colors, as in the sulphur springs, has several points lying more than 100 meters below sea level; also a place for the long camel caravans loaded with salts. Back aloft; take in sweeping views of the vast salt pans and Erta Ale’s fiery volcanic crater, a continuously active basaltic shield volcano the most alluring and physically challenging natural attraction. It’s hard to imagine a more brutal landscape than Africa’s Danakil Desert. But for the Afar people, this is a home to die for.
