01 – Flight Addis Ababa to Semera | Fly Addis-Semera with the morning flight (8:15am), meet and greet our local staff atSemera airport and drive to Afderawhere you can Swim in Lake Afdera& take a bath in hydrothermal springs. 02-Danakil Depression (Dallol) – ErtaAle | Early morning second visit of Erta Ale Volcano (Lava Lake) (if interested).After breakfast, drive to Afdera.after lunch in Afder, proceed driving to Semera and transfer to Semera Airport to catch your noon (5 pm) flight back to Addis. Day 03 – Flight back to Addis Ababa | Transfer out to domestic flight to ADDGDQ You will be welcomed by one our staff outside the airport Explore the sites of Gondar including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, also visit the Fasiledas pool which is still used for TImket celebration (Ephiphany the baptisim of Jesus Christ). Visit the charismatic Debrebirhan Silassie Church with the most striking painted ceiling. 07 –Gondar to Lalibela | Transfer in at Lalibela aiport welcomed by local staff Visit the Nakutoleab Church situated around 7km from central lalibela inside, there are various artifacts believed to have belonged to Na’akutoLa’ab, including crowns, gold-painted drums, crosses, a large painted canvas depicting ancient kings and an old, illuminated Bible. Interestingly, the monastery has some ancient stone receptacles that gather the water that drips from the cave’s roof, thought to be holy water. Visit the north-west cluster of churches Bet MedhaneAlem, (church of Holy Savior) the largest monolithic church Bet Maryam, (Chruch of Mary) Bet Meskel, (Church of Cross) Bet Danaghel, (Church of Undefiled) Bet DebreSina (Church of Debresina it’s a place), and Bet Golgotha. 08- Lalibela | Visit the 2nd group of churches, Bet Emanuel, Bet Merquiros, Bet Abba Libanos and Bet Gabriel-Rufa’el. Bet Emanuel’s intricate exterior is much admired by art historians. Bet Giyorgis, the most remarkable and prominent last work of Lalibela. Visit the cave church of Yemrehane Christos; 40kms away from the city, the church is constructed inside a cave, in Axumite style, similar to the church at DebreDamo, with irregular levels of wood and stone. Day 10 -Addis Jinka | Drive to Turmi The Benna villages are on your way to Turmi. They are adorned with clay and an impressive headdress. In the afternoon visit the Dassenech tribe. Here you will cross the Omo River by local boat and enter a Dassenech village to visit this pastoralist community. Turmi is a place for the Hamer tribes. Visit the Hamer village they are a fine looking people, both men and women take great pride in their appearance, shaving and coloring their hair, oiling their bodies and decorating themselves with beads and bracelets worn around arms and legs. They are famous for their body decoration, moonlight dance (Evangedi Dance) and bull-jumping. Bull jumping marks the rite of passage from childhood to adulthood. It is not a done every day. The Hamer villages are incredibly neat and constructed entirely from mud, wood and thatch; one of the most striking aspects of these small villages –which typically consist of a few extended families across perhaps 10-15huts –is the total absence of non –organic or western artifacts. Day 11 -Turmi Jinka | Depart for Jinka, via Dimeka and Key Afar. Tuesdays and Saturdays are market days in Dimeka, which is one of the most colorful markets in the area and is visited by many tribes, including Hamer, Benna and Karo. Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods. This is another very popular market in the region. Visit the South Omo Museum & Research Center to learn more about the local tribes. Additionally, take a hike in the surrounding hills to visit a local Ari village and learn how the locals do different tasks, such as blacksmith work and distilling the local gin, known as areki.
